Who we are

I am a third-year, practice-based PhD researcher with the Research Institute of Media, Arts and Performance, at the University of Bedfordshire (UoB), exploring the development of student radio in Luton, Leicester and Birmingham.

Alongside this, I am a Heritage Projects Officer in the Culture and Community Engagement team within Research and Innovation Services and, one of the Steering Group members for Luton Creates, an Arts Council England Place Partnerships programme delivered through Luton Arts, focused on transforming arts and culture delivery in partnership with Luton Borough Council.

With a background in Radio 2 and 4 magazine programmes (Woman’s Hour, The Media Show, Saturday Live and The Jeremy Vine Show) and Australian and UK community radio, I have overseen operations in senior leadership roles, produced daily current affairs and talks programmes and created training procedures.

As a judge for The Radio Academy’s ARIAs and 30 under 30, Audio Production Awards, British Podcast Awards, Student Radio Association and Community Radio Awards, my aim is to ensure we recognise both emerging and established audio practitioners, including reviewing how people can access opportunities.

During 2020-2025 I was a board member and secretary for AudioUK, supporting the creative industries to grow, including sitting on the steering committee for Audiotrain and the Audio Production Awards, and co-delivering panels on running an independent audio production company.

Prior to this, I was a magazine features journalist for womens’s consumer, music & entertainment and business publications. I have ghost-written autobiographies and had non-fiction published in chapter books, including roles in publishing and advertising as marketing manager for the Australian Writers’ Centre and senior account manager for SEEK.

Professional affiliations: I am member of the Oral History Society, Oral History Network of Ireland, Oral History Association, East of England Regional Archives Council, MeCCSA Radio + Audio Studies Advisory and Action Panel, AudioUK, The Audio Academy, Community Media Association, ECREA, IAMCR and CBAA.
